Registration for 2011 ACW for Clergy Is Open

The 2011 Academy of Christian Witness is open for registration.

The Academy for 2011 has been revamped to provide for the changing environment that clergy and churches find themselves reaching individuals for the Gospel. The Academy has new sessions and a breakout time to address the needs of different size churches in the Annual Conference. To attend, contact Robin Harry at email or 800-849-4433.

The Academy will be at Camp Rockfish in Parkton in the Bergland Center. The dates for the Academy are April 5th through 7th. Registration begins at 1pm in the Berland Center. A copy of the itinerary will be will be posted around the first of March 2011.

The Commission on Evangelism is excited to offer our Advanced Academy of Christian Witness on February 3rd through 5th. We will be meeting at Fort Caswell. Our Academy speaker will be Dr. Thom Rainer. For more infomation, click here.

Lay Academy of Christian Witness Details

The 2010 Lay Academy of Christian Witness will convene on Thursday, October 21st at 3 pm at the Bergland Center at Camp Rockfish near Parkton, NC. 

Here are some details to assist the participants at the Academy:

  1.  We are staying at Camp Rockfish outside of Parkton, NC.  Here is their web address if you need directions to arrive there:  www.camprockfish.org  .  At the camp, we will be staying at the Bergland Center.  The Bergland Center has motel quality rooms and a conference room where much of our activities will take place.  
  2. We will be eating most of our meals at the Dining Hall at Camp Rockfish.  It is a reasonable walk from the Conference center. 
  3. The weather forecast for Thursday through Saturday has highs in the low to mid 70’s during the day with no expectation of rain and the lows at nights between the mid 40’s to low 50’s. 
  4. Please dress in comfortable casual clothing for the Academy. 
  5. We are working to assign roommates based on your request, however, please understand we may not be able to connect everyone with their request. 
  6. We will provide you with paper for taking notes.  Various speakers may give you handouts in addition.  We ask that you bring your Bible with you.
  7. Check-in time on Thursday is 2 pm.  The Academy will begin at 3 pm that day.  The Academy looks forward to sending you back to your churches around noon on Saturday morning. 
  8. Attached you will find a schedule of the Academy running Thursday through Saturday.  You will receive another copy when you arrive.

2010 Lay ACW Schedule

Lay Academy of Christian Witness–2010

The Commission on Evangelism invites lay members of local churches to participate in Lay Academy of Christian Witness. The Academy will run Thursday, October 21st through Saturday, October 23rd. This three day Academy will offer tools that can be used in the local church by lay members. The Academy cost $25 per person which includes lodging, meals, sessions and take home materials. New Year–New Opportunities

2010 has begun.  The Commission on Evangelism is moving forward on two fronts to help congregations and districts fulfill the mission of The United Methodist Church.

1.  Pastors–The Academy on Christian Witness for Clergy will be held April 20 through 22 at Camp Rockfish in Parkton, NC.  Talk to your District Superintendent about participating.  The cost:  FREE!

2.  Districts–The Commission has limited grant monies to assist in evangelism projects.  To receive consideration, down load this
“grant form”
and follow the instructions attached.

The Commission is meeting this Monday, January 25th.  After that meeting, we hope to share an exciting announcement with the Annual Conference. Stay tuned!

Guidelines for Revival and Renewal Services

The Rev. Dr. Tim Reaves has put together a handy guideline for holding Revival or Renewal Services at your church.  Dr. Reaves preaches nearly 12 revivals every year and has been chair of the Commission on Evangelism prior to 2008.

Continuing Education Grant Form

The Commission on Evangelism has a limited selection of grant monies for the Congress on Evangelism.  The event is from January 5th through January 8th.  To download a grant request form, click on this link.  In order to be considered for the grant, the form must be completed and returned as per the instructions on the form.  Failure to follow directions may prevent your consideration for a continuing education grant.  COE
